So nobody is going to comment on the fact that this preemptive travel ban was to avoid terrorist attacks on US soil? Meanwhile during this travel ban, London was attacked three times by ISIS due to open borders. But I guess we have to mourn several thousands of students having to wait a little longer to get degrees instead of saving American lives.

boohoo…shall I cry for this idiot? I studied extremely hard, and had to jump through a million hurdles to get to US to do my PhD on scholarship. Every step of the way was hard. My wife is an internationally recognized scholar with papers published in Nature and she still cannot work and is a housewife, because she came here on a dependent visa. seriously you idiot leftists are loosing all credibility. And WTF is an immigration lottery. I guess I cannot get any part of it, since I am from India.

As surveyed and mapped by the Peace Corps while I was in charge of the Peace Corps the border was set a little north of Tarim, parallel with the equator- was this student from north or south of that border? I from north of that border that student would have no official standing to be given a visa.

Repeal the patriot act. Was unconstitutional to begin with. It was supposed to be temporary. 9/11/2001 is gone ,but our liberties are still curtailed.

"Cruel and unusual": some people seem to have taken that as an injunction and not something to be banned.

This tragedy is part of Obama's legacy. The Yemeni families I have gotten to know in my neighborhood are hard-working folks, socially and politically knowledgeable, and caring of their new neighbors: who, in this case, are Ethiopean, Eritrean, American blacks and struggling middle-class white families.

Majority of these comments need understanding of our Bill of Rights, Constitution and Congressional Laws. As you can see? Immature comments. No clue comments! That young man should be registering and choosing his freshman classes, by now.

Tough titty, I can not care or have sympathy for these cases. The countries are a total mess concerning documents and muslim ideology. Every child, woman, man that isn't mamed or harmed by letting thousands of people not in is a win for Americans. The world is a big enough place, go somewhere else if your country is too big of a mess. I hear the EU lets anybody in, especially when your a radical islam nut. It shows, we've been blasted, bombed, raped and robbed like there's no tommorow. Thank you mrs Merkel. 72 years after the nazi's, Germany has total control over Europe and it's a damned mess.

To paraphrase the DMV: "Visas are a privilege, not a right." They gambled and they lost. Hopefully they win the appeal.

So sad what this student and others are going through. So unfair. It sounds like the policies of the Trump administration have ruined this man's life and left him in limbo. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise as Trump has reneged on so many past contracts or agreements he (or the U.S.) has entered into. He has proven that he is completely untrustworthy with agreements. The anti-Muslim comments under this video are ignorant and disgusting.

NAZI Idiot Trump policies make us all smaller. Smaller hearts, smaller minds, smaller imaginations. Nothing positive can come from hatred of the "other." Plus, USA commitments are worthless since the goalposts are continually being moved.

Real shitty Democracy Now, Amy Goodman that you just like with the 2nd Amendment never allow opposing views to the fact that WE do already have millions in poverty with no clean water which obviously we can't or aren't taking care of so to allow other people to enter the country isn't empathetic it's victim blaming those already suffering here while making you feel as if you are a caring individual, trying to quell your own personal guilt. You will lose a good portion of your audience if you continue to be one sided which means you are acting as propaganda spreading false narratives knowingly using the good credit you have. Manipulation is a poor long term plan.

International educational exchange is such a precious and hugely necessary thing, especially with so much talk by bigots and terrorists about their craving for a "cultural war" between "civilizations". But Trump's policies deny people like Mr Almaqrami this chance to enrich their own lives and the lives of their peers in the US, although they had already lawfully acquired their visas. Such an insidious act.
