[ad_1] LOS ANGELES (AP) — All remaining significant evacuation orders for areas around the smoldering remnants of Southern California’s huge wildfire were canceled Thursday after a new round of winds caused little fire activity. The lifting of evacuation orders and warnings in Santa Barbara County left only remote and little developed Rose Valley in the wilderness of neighboring Ventura County under an order barring residents and visitors. Warnings of high fire risk were canceled for Santa Barbara County, although they remained in effect elsewhere in Southern California due to Santa Ana winds, low humidity levels, and very dry vegetation. Jemele Hill Doesn’t Take Back What She Said About Trump

[ad_1] ESPN anchor Jemele Hill has no regrets about calling President Donald Trump a “white supremacist.” The Washington Times reports that in an interview on the podcast Now What? hosted by former NFL running back Arian Foster, the only thing that Hill was, “really regretful about,” were the awkward position she put her co-workers in. She explained, “So mostly it was just about, for me, it was dealing with, sorting through everything at work.” She continued, “It really wasn’t – I didn’t care what the president said. New Video App Helps Users Track Black Santa

Allowing children to see a dark-skinned Santa is a good step in protesting the poor mainstream representation of them. “This is so exciting,” Amber Ravenel, CEO of the Ravenel Agency who came up with the idea for the app, said to The Huffington Post. “When I grew up there was only one type of Santa,...

House GOP Scrambles To Rally Votes For Spending Bill

[ad_1] WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans early Thursday unveiled a new, stripped-down spending bill to prevent a government shutdown this weekend and allow quarreling lawmakers to punt most of their unfinished business into the new year. The bill would keep the government operating through Jan. 19 and permit lawmakers — Republicans and Democrats — to head home for the holidays. It would delay battles over the budget, health care and immigration into January, denying Democrats wins that they had hoped to score this year. Failure to pass the measure would trigger a government shutdown at midnight Friday, which would amount to a...

The Independent candidate announced her concession to Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms late Wednesday (Dec. 21), saying she will not contest the Dec. 5 runoff results despite earlier calls for a recount. Norwood lost to Bottoms by 821 votes in race in which nearly 90,000 people cast ballots. Norwood had asked for a recount in the runoff. But in a change of mind, the candidate said in her concession video Wednesday that while she believes there were voting irregularities, she would not contest the results. “For the future of this city,...
